CHIPO Mugeri-Tiripano’s joy of scoring the first century of the Women’s Regional Cricket Tournament was in vain.
Her Southerns Women lost to Northerns Women by 22 runs in the limited overs opener at Old Hararians Sports Club on Monday.
Southerns looked on course to avenge the nine-wicket defeat they suffered against the same opposition in a two-day match that ended at the same venue on Sunday.
Bouyed by wickets from Loreen Tshuma and Loryn Phiri, with three wickets for 24 and 38 runs respectively, Southerns restricted Northerns to 217/8 in their 50 overs.
In-came Mugeri with a whirlwind 100 off just 103 deliveries and when she departed, Westerns were 189/4 after 32.2 overs needing 28 runs to win.
However, Mitchel Mavunga turned the match on its head with three wickets in one over as Southerns were bundled out for 195 runs.
Mavunga was named player of the match for her four for 12 from six overs.
