IN-FORM top amateur golfer Innocent Mukumba was crowned the 2023 Platinum Classic champion at Norton Country Club at the weekend.
The Wingate-based Mukumba recorded his second win of the year after also scooping the Mashwede Open in September.
To take to the podium Mukumba had rounds of 75, 72 and 76 for a total 223, beating his nearest rival by three shots.
Mukumba said he was happy to make huge strides and the win gives him confidence to achieve more.
“It is a massive win for me as the competition was very tough. I was trailing from round one only to make my best round in the final round.
“I am now looking forward to maintaining some good performances until the end of the season. We are happy that we are having some tournaments which are competitive,” said Mukumba.
Tanaka Chatora (16) asserted himself as one of the brightest prospects on the local golf scene, finishing second after impressive rounds of 75, 70 and 81 for a total 226.
Midlands-based amateur Pasmo Matiyo Dzvengwe was third after rounds of 75, 73 and 81 for a total of 229.
