GOSPEL musician John Munodawafa has made it into Starbrite 2018 finals to be held in January 2019.
John, who is brother to singer Munyaradzi of the 1990s hit Chipo Changu, said the earned the spot through hard work and merit.
However, John might not be a new name to gospel followers after claiming last year’s Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe top 50 third place with his song Ndidzivirireyi.
Speaking to H-Metro, John could not hide his elation.
“I have always wanted to be among stars who come through Starbrite and making it into the finals has made me achieve that.
“I am grateful to the organisers and judges for believing in me, now I can live my dream,” he said.
The youthful musician said he will be launching his new album soon.
“I have recorded an eight track album which I collaborated with my brother Munyaradzi on one of the songs titled –Tenda.
“I have titled the album Mwari Vanoshamisa and if all goes well I will launch it after the Starbrite finals,” he said.
John will be joined by 18 other contestants drawn from across the country who will compete in four categories including singing, poetry, dance and juniors.
The talent search’s executive director, Barney Mpariwa said the finals are expected to be in Harare.
“The semi-finals are done and we are now heading to the finals which we are hosting in Harare.
“We have a different a crop of artistes each year and as a team we continue to aim affording every Zimbabwean a chance to showcase their talent,” he said.
