DETAILS surrounding the murder of a “Good Samaritan”, who was killed while trying to save a woman who was being assaulted by her lover at a sex haven in Harare’s CBD, emerged in court yesterday.
The suspect in the murder case, Malvern Batsirai, appeared in court.
He limped his way to court with a swollen face when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi
Upon inquiry by the court on why his face was swollen, Batsirai told the court he was assaulted by the real people who murdered the now deceased and he was wrongly arrested.
The court heard that on November 5, at around 3am, Batsirai and his girlfriend, Nomatter Makoro, had a misunderstanding.
Batsirai assaulted her over the issue and was restrained by Malvern Paul.
That infuriated him and a misunderstanding arose between the two.
They proceeded to Gail Court and, upon arrival there, Batsirai teamed up with his accomplices, only known as the Gaza cartel, Tsomutsomu and Darlington Dadza, and assaulted Paul.
They allegedly further stoned him till he was unconscious and left him for dead.
He was assisted by a passers-by and ferried to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Thomas Chanakira prosecuted.
