Lady Chevrons coach Adam Chifo says today’s match against USA is crucial as it will determine the fate of Zimbabwe in the ICC Global Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

Zimbabwe lost their opening match against Thailand by 8 runs.

The defeat on Sunday put a dent on Lady Chevrons hopes of making it into the super six.

In an interview with H-Metro Sport yesterday, Chifo said they are geared for the game.

“Our upcoming match against the USA is a crucial one, if we are to redeem ourselves and salvage a place in the super 6.

“The 2 points will definitely help the equation in our favor.

“So we are read for the game and hoping for the best,” he said.

A win for Zimbabwe will put the team’s campaign back on track ahead of tougher assignments against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Chifo added that he was happy with his team’s improvement in the batting department which saw two players posting over half centuries.

Chifo will be looking to build up on the performance of Mary Anne Musonda and Josephine Nkomo who showed positivity in the defeat against Thailand.

“We saw a lot of improvement in our batting in the last match against Thailand compared to our previous outings in the last tour against Bangladesh but obviously we need to keep improving with regards to strike rate and decision making,” he said.

Zimbabwe are hosting the qualifiers which will see three teams qualifying to the World Cup in New Zealand next year.

Chifo said playing at home is an advantage to the Lady Chevrons.

“Playing at home is an advantage as we know the conditions more than anyone else in the tournament but it also comes with a lot of pressure being the home team and with a lot of expectations on us,” added Chifo.
