A MAN boasted in court yesterday that his child was a brilliant student and every father would be proud to pay fees for such an academic star.
The irony of all this is that Cleopas Chinyama said this after being dragged to court by his estranged wife to contribute to the payment of his son’s fees.
Ireen Chinyama was claiming US$210 and $150 000 from Cleopas.
She argued that his previous offer was insufficient for the upkeep of their three children.
“Your Honour, US$210 plus $150 000 will do,” said Ireen.
“The elder son is enrolled at a private school where the school fees is US$620 and he promised to pay everything for the child.
“Some time ago, I went to the child’s school and I was shown that he hadn’t paid the money and the child is supposed to return to school next week.”
Cleopas said he could add US$100 and $50 000 for the minor kids and he will pay everything for his son’s studies.
“I have committed to paying the fees for my son because he is brilliant and Ireen should not worry about that.
“She is not a responsible woman, I asked her to pay the money because I was not financially stable enough to pay our son’s fees.”
Cleopas said he had already cleared the first instalment.
Magistrate Ayanda Dlamini granted Ireen US$100, $50 000 plus school fees for the two minor children.
