MODEL and television personality, Geraldine Mandengenda, has been named the Face of Kariba brand ambassador as part of efforts to market the resort town.
The beauty queen was appointed on Wednesday and she comes in after the expiry of Hillary Makaya’s reign.
Makaya was appointed in July last year.
Geraldine said she is determined to work towards attaining the vision shared by the Kariba community.
“I am mindful of the importance of the responsibility of such an appointment and I am grateful for the confidence that was shown in me.
“Kariba is known as having the largest man-made lake and for its cultural diversity.
“It has the potential of becoming the destination of choice for tourists.
“I want to thank the confidence shown in me by the Face of Kariba Trust board, and everyone who was involved in recommending me, and making such a decision.
“I promise to do my best to discharge my duties and undertake my responsibilities to the best of my abilities,” she said.
Geraldine, who is a national executive member for young women for economic development media department, said there was no doubt Kariba has the potential of becoming a leading tourist destination locally, regionally and internationally.
“There are a lot of opportunities that are offered by the local authority and the government for investment in Kariba in terms of infrastructure, tourism, agriculture.
“Kariba is a beautiful place, known for being home to the culturally-rich Ba-Tonga people as well as the tasty Kariba bream and much more,” she said.
Face of Kariba Trust founder, Alois Chimbangu, said Geraldine fits well with the master plan to market the resort town.
“As part of her ambassadorial duties, she will be responsible for maintaining a positive brand image of Face of Kariba through brand awareness, both online and offline.”
The Face of Kariba Trust was formed to promote the resort town as a tourist and investment destination, through pageantry, arts and events.
Geraldine is a presenter of a quiz show for junior schools, which airs every Monday on ZBC, from 2pm to 2:30pm.
