The City of Harare acting water director, Engineer Mabhena Moyo says consulting firms must comply with the latest water and wastewater reticulation formats.

The development follow the changing of the Standard Operating Procedure for the submission of water and sewer designs to comply with the Geographical Information Systems.

In a statement, Eng Moyo said council has changed the Standard Operating Procedure for the submission of water and sewer designs to comply with the Geographical Information System (GIS) compatible format.
“Shape files should be in linear and point vector data representing sewer lines and manholes respectively.

“For sewer lines, the designs should provide the diameter, the type of material, the location on which the line will be installed, pipe class, gradient among other specifications.
For manholes, the information required include the diameter and height, township, ground level, invert level, depth and manhole notation.
“Shape files related to water reticulation designs also come in the same vector data, linear for water lines and point valves,” he said.

Eng Moyo gave information on the requirements for new water reticulation designs.

“Information required for water reticulation includes pipe diameter, material, wall thickness, township, pipe class, planned installation date and line number.
“Information required for valves includes diameter, type, material, class and position.
“The installation for reservoirs required the capacity of the reservoir, top water level, bottom water level, overflow level, height and material used (concrete).
“Council adopted GIS a few years back as a way of solving service delivery issues.”
