A BUSINESSMAN lost more than US$21 000, which was stashed in a bag in his room at a guest house in Borrowdale, Harare, after he was attacked by a group of armed robbers.

Jiang Yao, 34, has been staying at the guest house since June 13.

His colleague, Yi Ting, 54, also lost cash to the same armed robbers.

The robbers pounced at the guest house, at around 2030 hours.

Security guard, Herbert Hakupangwi, was doing perimeter checks at the premises when he saw one of the robbers armed with an unidentified pistol.

The robbers pounced on him and tied his hands and legs were tied with an electric cable.

They proceeded to where Jiang was asleep. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the robbery.

“Police are investigating an armed robbery case in Borrowdale,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The accused persons were reported to have knocked on one of the guest houses, where the complainant was asleep and he opened the door assuming that it was one of the guest house employees.

“As he opened the door, six accused persons entered into the room.

“One of the accused persons pointed a pistol at him demanding cash.

“The accused persons took his bag, which was besides the bed, containing cash US$20 000, credit cards and his passport.”

Insp Chakanza added:

“He requested the accused person to leave his passport and they gave it back to him.

“When the accused person left the premises, complainant told a colleague called that he had been robbed.

“Upon arriving at the guest house, she discovered that her handbag, containing US$1 700, which was on a couch in her office and a speaker, were also stolen.”

Yi Ting has been booked at the guest house since June 13.
