THE HERALD-The National Prosecuting Authority has reported that more than 2 200 robbers were convicted by the courts last year, with over 700 more still undergoing trial.
The majority of robbers were men, with only two women having been convicted of armed robbery and 17 convicted of basic robbery.
Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces had the highest number of convictions, with Matabeleland North having the least.
The NPA said 2 239 robbers were convicted, 721 for armed robbery, 1 518 for basic robbery and 717 pending cases.
According to the stats, 412 male armed robbers and two females were convicted in Harare and 189 males were convicted in Bulawayo.
Matabeleland North had only two convictions while Mashonaland Central jad four.
Notable cases included the sentencing of Tinashe Marandure Pfeveni to 45 years and the sentencing of Boniface Moyo to 57 years.
The three men responsible for faking a US$2.7 million robbery from ZB Bank were also sentenced to eight years each.
