Acting Clerk of Parliament Helen Dingane yesterday suspended all physical meetings in the August House as part of Government efforts to contain the Covid-19 fourth wave.

The decision came after a number of staff tested positive to the virus as fear grows towards the new Omicron variant. Only a few members will attend sessions physically until the action is reviewed.

In a statement, the Acting Clerk of Parliament said all meetings including yesterday’s sitting were now set to be held virtually.

She urged all Members to follow proceedings on their gadgets including engaging in the ongoing debate on the 2022 National Budget.

The National Budget was presented last month by Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube and as per tradition, Members are allowed to question all motives.

“In line with Government containment measures, as well as in-house directives meant to ameliorate against the surge currently being witnessed, only a few MPs are in attendance physically.

“The rest are following via virtual platforms,” reads the statement.
