CHEGUTU Pirates now have more wins than giants Dynamos.
The PSL debutantes registered their second win with a hard-fought victory over Hwange at Baobab yesterday to move up the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings.
The match had its ugly share of scenes when Hwange players protested the penalty, which helped Pirates to win the match, forcing a 16 minute stoppage.
The Pirates were the first to score.
In the 10th minute Tinotenda Chiunye put Pirates ahead with shot that hit the crossbar before settling in the far corner.
It sent the big army of Zaire travelling fans into a frenzy.
Three minutes later Hwange captain, Sebastian Moyo, silenced Zaire with a header to level the scores.
From a corner the lanky Moyo rose highest and his header beat Arnold Munkuli, the Pirates captain.
Pirates protested in the first half when referee Grace Gimo ignored their calls for a penalty after what looked like a handball in the box.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute when Cannan Nkomo was adjudged to have handled in the box by the referee.
Gift Mwinga’s rising shot hit the crossbar and he scored from the rebound forcing protests from the Hwange players.
Pirates coach Emmanuel Gutu was a happy man.
“We were sitting in a precarious position and this win is a morale booster.”
