. . . as Musona returns
ASTON Villa coach Steven Gerrard has been urged to ‘utilise’ Marvelous Nakamba following his top performance in the team’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the weekend.
The Zimbabwean continues to get plaudits after helping Gerrard off to a perfect start as he oversaw his first game since taking over from sacked Dean Smith.
Nakamba caught the eye of supporters after completing 27 of his 28 passes – translating to a 96 percent pass accuracy.
Villa reminded fans of the Warriors star’s display yesterday with a tweet that saw fans rallying behind him to get more game time under Gerrard.
“96% pass accuracy (27/28) for @Nakamba_11 at the weekend. Marvelous performance,” posted the English Premier League club.
Here are some reactions by fans:
Matt: “Biggest #avfc improvement this season. Made steps forwards last year but has thrived in Luiz’ absence. A lot to desire when it comes to ball playing. But he’s been fantastic at breaking up play and dissipating danger. “
Tom Ellis: “This is where Dean struggled to utilize Nakamba, he’s generally done the basics very well. Asking him to progress the ball is too much.”
Mr Thompson: “Improved massively and give much needed tenacity and ball winning in midfield. Seems to be a debate but I’d play Nakamba at 6, Luiz at 8 and push McGinn forward.”
Kevin Hughes: “He’s never going to be pinging 30-yard diagonals, but if you want a DM to sit and cover, he’s fine. This is why I wasn’t on board with the summer calls for a ‘DM’. We have one, just not often used. A better quality CM, sure, but that’s a different conversation IMO.”
Meanwhile, Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has returned to fitness as he played in his team, Al Tai’s 1-0 win over Al Feteh.
The result saw the Saudi top-flight side ending four-match winless streak.
The Zimbabwe international had been on the sidelines for the past month – nursing an injury that also saw him missing Zimbabwe’s last two matches of the World Cup qualifiers.
