Police dismisses death of 10 passengers

Police have dismissed reports that more than 10 people died after a commuter omnibus encroached into the lane of a fuel tanker resulting into a collision along the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Kuwadzana.

Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said five people were killed while six others were injured.

“Five people were killed while six others were injured when a Toyota Hiace kombi with yet to be established number of passengers on board collided with a fuel tanker with no passengers on board,” he said.

“The kombi had turned right into Bulawayo Road in front of the oncoming fuel tanker.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.”

Meanwhile, two people were killed while five others were injured when a Toyota Land cruiser vehicle veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels along Masvingo.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post mortem while four of the injured victims were admitted at the same hospital,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

“The other injured victim was referred to a hospital in Harare for further medical attention.”

He urged motorists to abide by the country’s road rules and regulations in-order to curb road accidents.
