THERE is need for police officer to be innovative and versatile in their operations or risk being stifled by criminals, a senior cop has said.
Commissioner General of Police Godwin Matanga said this on Wednesday (yesterday) in his speech at the official opening ceremony of the Rebranding Refresher Course for Senior Officers Phase two at Morris Depot.
He said police officers must be innovative and adapt to their operations so that they ensure sustainable peace and stability in the country.
“I am convinced that developing people is cardinal and paramount in any organisation since at the end of the day we normally bet on people more that strategies to realise our goals and aspirations,” said Comm-Gen Matanga.
“As the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we are seized with the nascent need to improve our services in order to ensure a safe and secure Zimbabwe.
“In light of this, Zimbabwe Republic Police pledges to double its concerted efforts in ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the country.
“It is not in dispute that as a people, we can only successfully market and lure substantial investment if we create a conducive environment which guarantees safety of both life and property.
Comm-Gen Matanga urged the senior officers that they should take the training exercises seriously as it is meant to inspire knowledge and skills to transform them into polished and focused police officers.
He said as an organisation, they are heavily investing in their policing theme for 2019 which says: “ZRP Re-branding to Restore Public Confidence for Peace and Economic Development in the Second Republic”.
