A NORTON man has divorced his wife after she terminated a pregnancy she conceived with her lover.
Tavengwa Chikwature claimed his wife, Olivia Mahungoneta Musunga, was surrounded by many suitors and had expressed disinterest in him despite being married for almost a decade and having three children together.
Chikwature and Musunga were married on May 10, 2014, and their three children are aged four, seven and 11 years.
“Chikwature has always provided for Musunga’s welfare and the welfare of the children while she pursued her agendas of being a traditionalist.
“She consulted sangomas and traditional healers and has always been involved in rituals in the house, sewing traditional regalia and meditation which was detrimental to health,” said Chikwature in his declaration.
Musunga admitted to having an affair with a man identified as Mangwiro and terminating a pregnancy conceived in December 2020.
Chikwature proposed sharing of the couple’s property in Darwendale View Phase 1, Norton.
In her appearance to defend, Musunga claimed she still loved Chikwature and had not lost all her love and affection towards him.
High Court judge, Justice Fatima Maxwell, granted Chikwature a divorce decree and ordered him to pay US$50 per month per child as maintenance.
Custody of the minor children was awarded to Musunga.
“A decree of divorce be and is hereby granted. Custody of the minor children, be and is hereby awarded to Musunga.
“Chikwature be and is hereby ordered to pay maintenance in the sum of US$50 per month per child, at the prevailing interbank rate, until each child attains the age of majority or becomes self-supporting,” Justice Maxwell ruled.
