The Presidential Scholarship bosses were yesterday dragged to court facing fraud charges involving over US$6000.
Oliver Ngoni Mucherwa who was the Deputy Director Administration for the Scholarships during the commission of the offence, and Godknows Mupembe the office orderly for the Scholarship Fund were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Learnmore Mapiye.
The duo is out on $1000 bail each.
Allegations are that on April 16, the executive director of the Presidential and National Scholarship Dr Chris Mushohwe received an invitation letter through the department email from University of Fort Hare to attend graduation ceremonies which were to be held on 2 and 3 May as well as 15-17 May.
Due to other commitments, the minister nominated the duo to attend the ceremonies together with Silent Mudariki who is still at large.
The three acting in connivance doctored the invitation letter changing the graduation dates to read 2-8 May and 15-24 May then applied for cabinet authority and subsistence allowances using the forged letters.
Acting on the forged letters, they received $2 900 each instead of $1755 each causing the State a prejudice of over $1 824.
