TWO prison guards were yesterday dragged to court after they allegedly assaulted two civilians, who were passing through the Chikurubi Prison premises, accusing them of trespassing.

The civilians suffered fractures.

For the offence, Michael Moses Nduna and Florence Chihambakwe appeared before Harare magistrate, Munashe Chibanda, who released them on $15 000 bail each.

Allegations are that on October 5, last year, the complainants — Evidence Kutsawa and Alex Tendai Gombedza — were going to Gletwin, using a road that passes through Chikurubi Prison. At the prison recreational park, they came across Nduna and Chihambakwe, who accused them of trespassing.

Nduna instructed them to lie down and assaulted them on their feet using a pick handle.

A police report was made at Highlands Police Station and investigations led to the duo’s arrest.

The complainants were referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.

Shambadzeni Fungura appeared for the State.
