RESIDENTS and motorists have welcomed the reopening of Amalinda Bridge, which is a key part of the ongoing Mbudzi Interchange project.

This follows its reconstruction and widening, which is going to create access and also reduce congestion.

The Mbudzi Interchange, which is located at the busy intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen Roads, replaces the old roundabout that had become a notorious bottleneck for traffic, particularly during peak hours.

A kombi driver, Fungai Nyowani, said:

“We have been facing many challenges, especially congestion and it is my hope that with these developments that have been made at this intersection, this is going to be a thing of the past.”

Am Amalinda new stands resident, Kudzai Benasi, said she hopes the project will be completed soon and boost their businesses.

“So, we are happy that all of this development is happening in our area because the roads have become a menace,” she said.

“I am happy that today not only this particular bridge, but the accessibility, if you are looking at Northbound traffic, we are now ready to go through town, but we can now use this particular stretch of road.

“We heard from the contractor that they are not going to end here, they are going to proceed right into the locations, which was also a plea by the citizenry, to say when are you coming to attend to our roads.”

Another resident, Martin Choto said the refurbishment was a lifeline for them.

“The road was in a dilapidated state, making our journeys challenging. Now, the rehabilitation, will not only enhance our daily business but also significantly reduce the frequency of accidents.

“This refurbishment is a breath of fresh air and we are grateful that the government is addressing the infrastructure needs that directly impact our daily lives.

“The Government’s commitment to improving our roads is commendable.”
