THREE security guards manning a Willowvale company were disarmed by eight armed robbers who, however, blew up an empty safe.
The three guards, Ngonidzashe Zisengwe, 24, Brian Mavangira, 28, and Brighton Zinyoro, 24, were disarmed of their 303MKII rifles and handcuffed with their cuffs along Godwin Road in Willowvale.
The robbers’ efforts were in vain after they blew up the safe and found it empty.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said they were investigating the case.
“At around 1am, eight unknown men armed with an unknown pistol jumped over the precast wall into the premises with black balaclavas.
“They disarmed the security guards of the 303 rifle and handcuffs.
“They handcuffed the guards and forced them to lie on the ground. Using an iron bar, they forced open the office door and blew open the safe using dynamite.
“After realising that the safe was empty, the accused left behind the 303 rifle and guards handcuffed.
“The security guards were later assisted by a guard who had reported for morning duty,” said Insp Chakanza.
