A GANG of nine robbers raided a mine in Chegutu, disarmed the guards before fleeing with a tonne of gold ore.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro, that the nine robbers struck at Shang We Mine in Chegutu at around 8pm on Monday.
They disarmed the two security guards who were on duty.
“They left two of their members guarding the security guards and proceeded to where the gold ore was stored and stole a tonne of gold ore and vanished into the darkness,” said Insp Kohwera.
He said the matter was reported at ZRP Chegutu.
Meanwhile, a Chegutu pirate taxi driver lost his black Honda Fit to two men.
Insp Kohwera said Weslie Batgjies (23) picked two passengers at the 10km peg along the Chegutu-Gadzema Road.
He said the two hired him to take them to Pfupajena to collect their blankets .
“Along the way, and at ZMDC, one of the passengers, who was seated at the front, ordered the driver to stop the vehicle.
“He grabbed his hands and shoved him off from the steering wheel.
“The other one, who was seated at the back, produced a knife and threatened to stab him.”
He added:
“They searched him and took US$50 and a cellphone.
“The two then drove towards Harare-Bulawayo road.”
Batgjies was dumped in a bushy area.
