TRACTOR Provider (Pvt) Ltd agent Joseph Makwiyana has been implicated in a US$400 000 fraud scheme.
Makwiyana appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa.
The complainant is Tractor Provider (Pvt) Ltd represented by Jawad Nazar its director.
The company is in the business of selling farm equipments.
It employs agents to market their products.
Allegations are that between July and October this year, Makwiyana authored documents purporting to be an Operations Manager of Deemba Enterprises Trading as Tractor Provider Company.
He requested Mahindra (Pvt) Ltd, a company registered and operating in India, to supply farming machinery and equipment valued at US$439 964 on a credit facility.
Makwiyana allegedly used a forged date stamp of Tractor Provider Company on the documents.
It is the State’s case that Mahindra agreed to the deal and entered into a Distribution Agreement with Deemba Enterprises on July 3 this year.
Mahindra generated a Proforma Invoice of the Farm Equipments valued at US$439 964.
The company then contacted Tractor Provider Company verifying whether they knew anything about the request which was allegedly and the Zimbabwean firm denied any knowledge of the deal.
Tractor Provider advised Mahindra that Makwiyana was just an agent and they had not authorised him to act in the manner he did and they filed a police report.
The State claims that Tractor Provider suffered a potential prejudice of US$439 964 and also suffered prejudice to their reputation.
