Zanaco striker Tafadzwa Rusike is hopeful of an AFCON dance after he was selected to be part of provisional Warriors COSAFA/AFCON squad, which was announced on Tuesday.

Having scored a hat trick tallying his goals to eight this season in the Zambia Super League Rusike is excited to be part of the squad.

Rusike credits God for his Warriors call.

“I am so delighted; it feels great I have been waiting for this opportunity, I am very grateful.

“My prayers were answered and also my performance at Zanaco,” he said.

He added;

“It would be my first time if I make it to Afcon. I expect to be part of the team that will lift the Afcon for Zimbabwe if I am selected in the final squad to Egypt. I am praying and working hard so that I gatecrash into the final squad.

“I am still training and working hard till I join the rest of the team. Good thing is I have previously played with most of the selected players. And this group of players will make headlines in Egypt.

“I would like to thank the National team coaches for showing faith in me. I have been working hard this side as well. So hard work pays at the end of the day. I am determined to add value to the team, as you can see it is composed of talented players,” he said.

Rusike is hopeful of going past group stages.

“My wish is that we win the cup as a team and to put up an outstanding performance as an individual.

“This is a fair draw. In any case, when we qualified, we were expected to meet the best African countries. So, whether it’s in this Group or in knock-outs, we are prepared to play anyone.

“Egypt might have home advantage so it might be them and us qualifying. The Warriors are not going there as tourists,” he said.

He added:

“Every team has a chance, but personally I believe that we will go all the way.

“Who are we not to even lift the title? We must believe. As players, we should believe, as a nation we should believe.”
