MUTARE-BASED Afro-fusion artist, Rutendo Jackie, says she was humbled by the love she got from her fans in the capital last weekend.

The energetic performer launched her Extend Play (EP) titled Tsvimbo Nedohwe at Nhaka Gallery in Harare.

Fellow jazz artists graced the event.

The mother of two, who is proud of her African culture, had a good day in office.

It carries six tracks – Mhondoro/Nyuchi, Zarura Masango, Varimugomba/Machinda featuring Maungira Enharira boss  Nyamasvisva, Mudzimu Wababa, Chaminuka Ndimambo and Sango.

It was produced by Cornelius Muponda.

The diva, who was testing the Harare market, said she has learnt a lot from the experience.

“The EP launch was a learning experience for me since this was my first event in Harare

“I am humbled by the love shown by the Harareans as they came out in numbers yesterday,” she said.

Rutendo, who is also known for performing with her walking stick, added:

“A walking stick is special because ‘hakuna musha usina tsvimbo’ .

“To me, the walking stick is my gift and I am in pursuit of Dohwe, which is an African fruit, so I am casting my tsvimbo ‘gift.”

Following the successful release of the EP, Rutendo says she has now set her eyes on releasing a debut album.

Largely inspired by the late Chiwoniso Maraire, Lira and Zamajobe, Rutendo has never stopped reinventing the wheel.

Born on February 18 989, the multi-tasking diva started her career at a tender age.

She had a passion for drawing.

Like most kids of her generation, her passion started when she joined the school choir at Chiredzi Primary School.

Despite being raised in a Christian family, she could not resist her love for traditional music.

She completed her education in Bulawayo.

The sad loss of her father in 1996 saw her complementing her siblings and mother to start hustling for survival.

This has also made her a super mum and the resilient artist she is today.

Rutendo is married to Alwyn Mugandani who also plays a huge role in her career.

The husband has been doubling up as her manager.

She boasts of a number of singles namely Usandisiye, Love Me As I Am, Zarurai Nzira, Handidi Nhamo, Waya Waya, among others.

She has also collaborated with household names like Jah  Prayzah and South Africa-based Mr Brown, among others.
