SACK the coach!
That was the message from the Super Eagles fans, carried in several Nigerian daily newspapers, as the West African country felt the pain of a lifeless show against Zimbabwe in Rwanda on Sunday.
Many Nigerian fans feel the Warriors were unlucky not to win the 2026 World Cup qualifier, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Now, they want coach Jose Peseiro FIRED.
The Punch newspaper concentrated on the fans’ comments:
Omotayo, of Lagos, wrote, “Zero shame and ambition, sack that your nonsense coach.”
David Simi added, “You guys are not ashamed, better sack that man called a coach.”
Sorochi Akawor rhetorically asked, “Una no get shame like this?”
Alagbe Samson said, “Zimbabwe wasted some chances towards the end of the match, including an open net chance.”
The Vanguard newspaper also devoted space to the anger among the fans.
The Daily Post newspaper said a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Nse Essien, said they would have sacked Peseiro, if they could afford it.
“The Sports Ministry who employed him were supposed to pay for their salaries. But up till now, nothing has been paid.
“If we sack the coaches now, who will pay compensation?
“Not a dime has been paid yet to this coach who earns about US$70 000 a month.
“If we had the money to give to him (pay him off) we are going to relieve him. We are not happy.”
