SAVANFRIQ WHO ARE THEY?
SAVANFRIQ is a versatile Zimbabwean female Afro Jazz, Afro Soul, Afro Fusion, Afro Pop, reggae and dancehall musical duo fronted by cousins Esther Nsompa aka Savannah Essy and Linda Munemo aka Ephricah Lee.
It was formed in 2017.
HOW THEY STARTED?
They began their musical journey in Botswana whilst Savannah Essy was studying law and Ephrica Lee marketing.
Whilst juggling school, jobs, performances at clubs as well as corporate events in Botswana they established a home studio where they horned their vocal and song writing abilities.
They have shared stages with big notable and established artists in Botswana and Zimbabwe.
ABOUT SAVANFRIQ THEIR PASSION
They view their passion as an investment, using their voices as an instrument to teach and to inspire. Their sultry, deep velvety tones combined together offer a stunning combination of vocal talent which cross over and blend perfectly to create a unique sound.
At their live shows, SAVANFRIQ create an amazingly electric atmosphere and receive standing ovations at every event.
After recording a number of singles with various established record labels and producers in Zimbabwe; 2018 saw the release of their first album titled Tinzwei Mambo ((meaning Hear Us Lord). They have also done a number of collaboration singles with various artists in Zimbabwe.
Tinzwei Mambo, Ndomutevera and Iwe Tamba gained considerable airplay on all national radio stations. In 2020 they were signed under the management of the award-winning label Red Fox Family international. On 17 June 2021, they released their 2nd album African Voices, which contains a blend of the genres that they sing.
ABOUT SAVANNAH ESSY WHAT SHE IS
Savannah Essy is a travelled Zimbabwean singer, song writer, composer, vocal coach, performer, recording artist.
Having grown up in Botswana until she completed pre-school, Savannah moved to Zimbabwe. She was raised by her mother after her father died when she was six.
It was during her primary school education in Hurungwe that she joined the choir, discovering her potential.
She later moved to Harare for secondary school and in 2006 joined a band called Outcasts which collapsed after Savannah moved to Botswana to pursue her studies.
But music would find, her and she started performing at functions and with some of Botswana’s established artists.
In 2014 she signed a deal with Harold’s Todd Restaurant where she played jazz on every Wednesday with a live band specializing more on cover songs.
In the same year she and her cousin Ephrica Lee set up a home studio where they would record themselves in their spare time. Three years later they formed Savanafriq
ABOUT EPHRICAH LEE WHAT SHE IS
Ephricha Lee is a Zimbabwean singer, song writer, composer, vocal coach, performer, recording artist.
Ephricah Lee grew up with both of her parents. In her early years she was an athlete and in 2005 she won her first gold medal and she went to complete her secondary education.
Ephricah left for Botswana in 2010 to pursue her studies.
There she established and ran a home studio doing music as a solo artist, playing football ball for Botswana Maximum Prison Club (BMPC) while also working as a referee for different clubs.
In June 2017 after completing her studies, she returned to Zimbabwe to pursue her dream of music and has never looked back. There she and Savannah Essy set up Savanafriq. – SAVANFRIQ
