On the second count, they were sentenced to five years in prison.
One year was suspended on condition they don’t commit a similar offence involving the possession of live ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
The State, represented by Shambadzeni Fungura, proved that in August 2020, detectives from CID Homicide learnt that the duo was on the police wanted list for several armed robberies, and had been arrested in Beitbridge.
When the duo was interviewed, they led the police to the discovery of the firearm and ammunition, in a flower bed, outside 17 Railroad in Borrowdale.
The recovered firearm was booked by the police and the two signed an acknowledgement that they had led the police to its recovery.
The recovered shotgun and ammunition were taken to CID Forensic and ballistics for examination.
The report revealed that the firearm didn’t match any of the scenes of the robberies.
The police also went to the Central Firearms Registry and it was discovered that there was no record pertaining to the recovered shotgun and the duo was not licensed to own the gun.
