POLICE in Dzivarasekwa have arrested a 32-year-old man to answer several cases of rape, and aggravated indecent assault, committed between 2019 and June 2022.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest.
“The suspect, Simon Ben (32), would lure neighbouring girls between the ages of nine and 12 to his room, where he would play pornographic videos before abusing the minors,” he said.
“So far, five victims have come forward after one of the victims revealed the matter to her mother.”
Ass-Comm Nyathi said police in Gweru arrested four robbers for a spate of robberies and rape.
“Tafara Mabika (23), Blessing Chikomba (22), Joseph Moyo (22) and Dither Chigondo (26) were arrested for a spate of robberies, rape, unlawful entry into premises and theft cases committed in and around Gweru in June 2022,” he said.
“The arrest led to the recovery of 5x5kgs gas cylinders, 2x3kgs gas cylinders, six cellphones, a laptop, a pair of white sneakers, and several keys.”
Meanwhile, police are investigating a robbery case, which occurred in Msasa, on June 21.
“Four unknown suspects, armed with two unidentified pistols and crowbars, broke a precast wall to gain entry into a company’s premises before attacking the two security guards,” Ass-Comm Nyathi said.
“The suspects proceeded to the company offices, where they broke a safe and stole US$30 000 in cash and keys for a Toyota Hilux single cab (AFB 6321) before driving away with the company vehicle.”
