Following an alert, the Zimbabwe Republic Police on Sunday night arrested seven drug peddlers operating at the Copacabana commuter rank in Harare.
National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
“The suspects were found in possession of dagga with some openly smoking the illicit drug near a local supermarket. The ZRP expresses appreciation to some media houses and individuals who raised the alarm over the activities at this commuter rank.
“Investigations are underway and the Police will continue to conduct raids and blitz on all commuter ranks with a view to account for drug peddlers and to maintain law and order,” he added.
Several bus terminuses in the CBD have been turned into a hub of illegal drugs and alcohol in broad day light by daring rowdy youths smoking Marijuana, sipping Bronco and illicit brew.
One of the first people to respond to the Twitter post by ZRP, Lenox Lizwi Mhlanga said:
“While you are at it, check out the lane that runs from Harare St to Leopold Takawira streets near Queen Elizabeth High behind Nicoz Diamond offices. If they aren’t selling drugs, they are gambling,” he wrote.
Another Twitter user Diliza replied, “Good move! The practice is now rampant at other ranks such as Market Square, Fourth Street and all illegal ranks dotted around the CBD. Kombi crews and touts openly smoking mbanje is rife and Bronco also the order of the day.”
