Curtworth Masango in BULAWAYO
IT was shaping into a classic until a bunch of hooligans hijacked it and ruined this latest Battle of Zimbabwe showdown at Barbourfields.
Dynamos, playing probably their best football this season, were holding a healthy 2-0 advantage when the match was abandoned after 37 minutes.
Some Bosso fans, probably realising their team was on the path to a third straight loss in the championship race, could not stomach it.
They then invaded the pitch, after protesting at referee Allen Bhasvi’s decision not to punish the Glamour Boys for two incidents, and after throwing an assortment of missiles, forced the abandonment of this game.
Andrew Memba’s aggressive behaviour towards the referee did not help matters and appeared to trigger unrest among the Bosso fans.
Speaking to Zimpapers Sports, the match commissioner, Nelson Kusosa, confirmed that the game was abandoned.
“After assessing the situation, it’s unsafe to continue with the game. Match officially called it off.”
Keith Madera thrust Dynamos into the lead with the game’s first shot on target as he tucked home a cross from Donald Mudadi in the second minute of the game.
Issa Sadiki shot just went inches wide in the seventh minute as the impressive DeMbare searched for a second.
Lynoth Chikuhwa could have levelled matters but his shot went over the bar, in the 10th minute, from a promising position on the blind side.
Goalkeeper Taimon Mvula made a series of saves to protect his team’s lead before skipper Frank Makarati’s super header, into the far corner, gave the Glamour Boys the insurance goal in the 34th minute.
As the DeMbare fans exploded into joy, there was no hint of the chaos which soon followed, bringing the game to a premature ending.
Bosso had conceded just four goals before they crashed to a 0-2 defeat at the hands of champions FC Platinum.
Then, they conceded another two goals in the 0-2 defeat at the hands of Chicken Inn last weekend. The two goals they conceded yesterday meant they have now conceded SIX goals in their last two-and-half games.
Something is clearly wrong with Bosso right now and this will not be resolved by a shower of missiles.
