Child rights advocacy group, Shamwari Yemwanasikana (SYS), has marked the ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ through zumba.
The organization hosted a zumba session at Chibuku Stadium on Wednesday where girls from Seke 1 and 2 High Schools and members of the community including men participated.
The ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ are observed internationally from November 25 to December 10.
Various activities were held at Chibuku Stadium to raise awareness and confront some of the perceptions and norms that promote evils around GBV.
SYS programs officer Lisa Bonongwe applauded the collective support from participants.
“We applaud everyone who participated in the event, this shows that our people are really taking the fight against gender-based violence seriously and we can win the battle.
“We also encourage more men to be gender champions and fight for women’s equality and be more protective of girls and women in the society,” said Bonongwe.
The event themed: “#Shaking off GBV” was bankrolled by the European Union and Team Europe.
Men from Dare Remachinda and girls from Dandaro Revasikana were part of the event.
