Paul Pindai in Chinhoyi
A man has been arraigned before Chinhoyi Provincial Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki for stealing solar panels.
Albert Kasikuri from Chinhoyi admitted to the charge and was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months in prison.
However, three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining nine months were suspended on condition that he restitutes the complainant $10 000.
The complainant in this case is Karado Danai Roven (41) of Mapako phase 02, Chinhoyi.
Prosecuting, Tinoziva Chipupuri told the court that on February 23 at around 1pm, the complainant was sitting inside the house together with his wife, children charging their cellphones using solar energy and the 120 watts solar panel was outside.
Roven discovered that the cellphones were no longer charging and decided to check the cause. He then discovered that the cable from the solar panel had been cut off.
He saw that the solar panel was also missing.
Roven then called his two children who accompanied him in the direction of their well where there are no homes and saw Kasikuri with a colleague before they ran away.
Kasikuri was the one who was holding the solar panel in his hands, the State heard.
They managed to effect a citizen’s arrest and took him to the police.
Roven could not manage to catch the other unknown accused.
