HARARE businessman-cum-singer, Tendai “Wekwamarara” Marara, says he was inspired by the late Soul Jah Love to venture into music.

His music breakthrough came in 2020, during the Covid-19-induced lockdown, after being inspired by the late Conquering Family Boss.

Wekwamarara is set to establish a studio, Huslterz Music Studio, located in Mbare, as a way of giving back to the community.

“Currently, I am in the process of opening a studio in Mbare, we are going to be recording local artists for free. This is meant to assist talented artists, who are facing challenges, to record their music.

“I just decided to help the less privileged artists who need my support,” Wekwamarara said.

Wekwamarara urged other musicians to diversify, especially during hard times, saying his businesses compliment his musical career.

“I am into a lot of business ventures that involve retail banking, mining and farming,” he said.

Wekwamarara will perform at the Soul Jah Love commemoration show set for August 6 at the Glamis Arena.

The show is meant to celebrate the life and legacy of Soul Jah Love, who died on February 16, last year.

He was 31.

President Mnangagwa conferred him with liberation hero status.

“Sauro was my brother from another mother, so performing at the commemoration gig will be an honour,” he said.

The musician underscored the need for the youths to shun drugs and alcohol abuse.

“Largely, I record inspirational music to encourage ghetto youths to stop consuming drugs,” Wekwamarara said.

Meanwhile advance tickets for the Soul Jah Love commemoration gala go on sale this Friday at Diamond Pharmacies, F & G Showgrounds and the Glamis Arena offices.

This is aimed at easing pressure at the entry points as people tend to prioritise last-minute purchases of tickets.

Top chanters Freeman, Jah Signal, Jah Master, Hwindi Prezident  and Dhadza D are also part of the bill.

Household emcees  and wheel-spinners will also celebrate the life of Chibaba in style at the same event.
