THE suspected killer of a policeman stationed at Pfupajena Police Station in Chegutu last week has been arrested.
Tinotenda Tatenda Nyika (20) allegedly killed Elisha Munengerwa (35) after stealing his cellphone.
Munengerwa had been deployed at Kaguvi Primary School polling station for a by-election held on February 3.
Munengerwa died on admission to hospital after being found with a deep cut on the left arm at Western Shopping Centre.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Tinotenda allegedly stabbed Munengerwa with a home-made knife once on the lower left arm before stealing a Techno Camon cellphone.
“The victim succumbed to the stab wound. On February 6, detectives from CID Chegutu acted on received information and recovered the stolen cellphone from a local person which led to the arrest of the suspect,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
It was reported that on February 3 at around 3am, the informant, Farai Chifodya, was sleeping in his tuck shop when he heard some groaning outside.
When he went outside to investigate, he found the cop lying down injured and bleeding profusely.
Farai rushed to report the incident at Pfupajena Police Station.
Police who attended the scene found that it was their colleague, and they rushed him to hospital where died on arrival.
