WARRIORS utility player, Gerald Takwara, has been reflecting on the biggest night of his career.

He was named man-of-the-match, overshadowing Liverpool star Naby Keita, after Zimbabwe’s 2-1 win over Guinea in an AFCON Group B match in Yaounde, on Tuesday night.

Takwara was one of the key men for coach Norman Mapeza in their AFCON campaign after featuring in all the team’s three games.

“It feels great to be named man-of-the-match in a game full of stars like that. I am so grateful for the award.

“It’s something that makes me feel great because I have always wanted and dreamt of having that accolade in my career,” he said.

The Venda Football Academy defender said the tournament was a huge boost to his career.

“It’s the best tournament in Africa and facing some of the best players in the world, that’s the best experience a player can wish for,” he said.

“My confidence is now so high and this has been a platform for me to improve and I can believe that I can do anything.”

The former Ngezi Platinum captain said it was disappointing for them to fail to move past the group stage.

“I feel so bad for myself and the team. We were so disappointed and we also disappointed the nation.

“It’s the biggest burden to carry knowing the country is not happy but we did all we could but luck wasn’t just on our side.

“Some won’t believe in luck but I do and I think it didn’t favour us.

“Nothing really went wrong, it’s just that we were unlucky.

“But, we had some positives we took in those games and one of them is we learnt to focus.

“When playing with experienced players you need to focus throughout the whole game and every minute,” he said.
