JITI rapper Tatenda “Taylor Wayne” Mzinde says he is hopeful of winning his debut Zim Hip Hop gong despite being nominated in a tough category.
This year’s edition of the awards will be held in Bulawayo next month.
The 23-year-old was nominated for a second consecutive time this year.
He is competing against other rappers like King 98, Kae Chaps among other artistes.
He was nominated in the same category last year.
In an interview with H Metro Entertainment & Lifestyle, he said:
“I’m competing in a tough category but I’m optimistic I will make it. I did not manage last year in the same category but I feel like it is coming home this time.
“I love and appreciate every artiste in the category and also wish them all the best.”
“It’s such an honour to be nominated for the genre some radio DJs would say I’m not part of.
“When I started making jiti vibe some hip-hop DJs told to drop one genre and focus on hip-hop only and they never played me on their shows so being nominated twice for the hip-hop awards really means a lot it keeps me going.”
Taylor Wayne is popular for songs like Kuna mambo Varimugomba featuring T Gonzi and Ladele from Nigeria.
Meanwhile Taylor Wayne has released a new single titled Muripiko featuring Nasibo.
