A CHINHOYI teenager has appeared in court for violating the Government ’s level lour lockdown curfew and was fined $15 000.
Blessing Macharika appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Melody Rwizi who found the teen guilty of disobeying curfew orders and regulations and breaching regulations that ban unnecessary movement during the strict national lockdown.
Macharika was fined $15 000 or 60 days in jail if she fails to pay the fine on or before February 15, 2021.
Another 30 days were set aside for two years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence.
Prosecuting, Nyasha Sibesha told the court on January 28, 2021 at around 11pm, Macharika was roaming around Gadzema main bus terminus, Chinhoyi, while in the company of two unidentified men.
The trio, upon spotting some police officers who were on patrol, took to their heels, but their luck ran out when the officers pursued them.
Macharika was apprehended, while the other two escaped.
The court heard that she was taken to Chemagamba Police Station where she was charged for breaching the lockdown regulations.
Magistrate Rwizwi said the harsh penalty was to deter would be lockdown violators.
