The world is a stage and drama is a mirror of society. This expression is heard in many languages and countries. Probably it is as drama itself yet it is difficult to trace the origin of drama.

Acting is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor or actress who adopts a character in a TV drama, movie or a TV serie.

Many young people dream of one day becoming a rich and famous TV actor and one such young man who is slowly but surely on the right track to fulfill his dreams, is the main character in the popular local television drama Tunga. But who is Tunga, the TV character?

Tunga is a 23-year-old young man who was born and bred in the capital in a family of five.

His real name is Takura Kachambwa.

He was introduced and linked up into the film industry by his close friend, having started acting in 2015 and was then exposed to several short films and dramas like The Purse.

He also featured in other films like The DeadEnd which was produced by Moses Matanda and went on to feature in yet another film that was called Pawn.

His major breakthrough came in 2016, when he was given the opportunity to act as the leading character in the popular TV drama Tunga.

The drama has a large following and is one of the most entertaining weekly dramas on ZBCTV.

Thanks to the exposure given to our local script writers and producers by the local broadcaster ZBCTV.

Tunga, the local drama, gave Takura Kachambwa celebrity status and he says that status is so demanding as people expect you to be on point.

“People expect a lot from celebrities, they want more from you. You have to be on point all the time and sometimes you can’t do what you want as people would have surround you,” he said.

Tunga however was quick to point out that not everyone is happy about his acting and the role he plays in the local drama and this however adds more pressure on how to balance the act.

“I’m working on a number of areas so that l can be that actor who can fit in any play and that l can play any part. l play different roles in Tunga, yeah l guess l have a lot to work on and to improve to polish my act,” he said.

In the local drama, Tunga is the character who is fighting for true love, he is fighting for people to have the freedom to choose who they love and whom they want to marry.

The character is fighting the unfair treatment of his lover Ruzvidzo who was taken away from him by vanaMusengabere (an ancient tradition).

Tunga said that his director Slimaz is his role model and a brother all rolled in one and his acting future looks bright and he is of the view that he is always learning from his mistakes.

Tunga, as he is affectionately known, is soon to become an engineer and is in a serious relationship and hopes that one day he will take the Zimbabwe film industry by storm and be recognised.

His endeavors to become the best and win awards.

His wish is to one day feature in an action packed movie as he is inspired by Will Smith on the international arena.
