MANICA Diamonds could emerge from a HUGE weekend in the Castle Lager Premiership race as the leaders of the championship marathon.
The Gem Boys have a Super Saturday date against Ngezi Platinum in a battle royale between number two and three at Baobab.
On Sunday leaders Highlanders will take on fourth-placed Dynamos at Barbourfields.
It’s a measure of how FC Platinum and CAPS United have fallen that their showdown at Mandava isn’t generating any headlines.
Jairos Tapera’s Gem Boys have been quietly doing their work and arrive at Baobab sitting just two points behind Bosso.
What is not in dispute is that they have been the BEST team in the league so far.
Why?
Because, unlike both Bosso and Ngezi, Manica have not had the luxury of playing even ONE game at home all season.
All their matches have been away from their Sakubva home while both Bosso and Ngezi have been enjoying the privileges that come with home comforts.
Such has been their pack of privileges that they can, like what Highlanders are doing this weekend, host the game when they are playing an away match.
We will never know how both Bosso and Ngezi would have done if they had played all their home matches away from Barbourfields and Baobab.
But what we know is that Manica Diamonds have done incredibly well to be where they are right now and it’s fair to say they have been the best team in the marathon.
They can reinforce that point with victory tomorrow at Baobab.
