A THIEF, who was caught just before he broke into a house, stabbed the owner of the house with a screwdriver after he pursued and caught up with him.

Kelvin Nyabocho was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Stanford Mambanje, charged with attempted murder and robbery charges.

The court heard that on Tuesday, Kenward Kandenga saw Nyabocho standing outside his house.

When he confronted him, asking what he was doing outside his house, Nyabocho started running away.

Kandenga pursued him and Nyabocho threw a brick at him, but missed.

Nyabocho then advanced towards his victim and stabbed him once on the head with a screwdriver.

Kandenga then grabbed him and started shouting for help but Nyabocho went on to stab him with the screwdriver in his mouth.

He was later subdued by the mob that had gathered.

Nyabocho was arrested and found in possession of a screw driver, kitchen knife and a hammer.

Nyabocho was also linked to a robbery that occurred in the same area where Tapiwa Chirovapasi was robbed on his way  home in the Hopley area.

Nyabocho pounced on Chirovapasi and ordered him to sit down and surrender all his belongings if he didn’t want to die.

He surrendered his phone, his clothes and US$100.

He positively identified Nyabocho as his attacker.
