EIGHT months after a vicious gang attack, in which Blessing “Boss JB” Charakupa, who is the owner of Club Zone in Machipisa, was fingered, the trial of the businessman is expected to get underway in Harare today.
The attack left the student, Tanaka Tamayi, with two missing teeth.
The 33-year-old businessman was arrested on two counts of assault in connection with the ugly events outside a nightclub in Harare that January morning.
Tanaka was celebrating his birthday.
According to official documents, in the first count Charakupa “unlawfully committed an assault on Tanaka Tamayi with open hands and clenched fists intending to cause bodily harm or realising that bodily harm may result and inflicting pain on Tanaka Tamayi’s body.”
According to the official documents, “on the 27th January 2024, at around 0300 hours, the complainant (Tanaka) was at Habhana Lounge, Chiremba Road, Harare at a family party.
“Upon leaving the place, the complainant saw his brother Ronald Tamayi fighting with a certain man and he went to restrain his brother and he managed to restrain them and his brother drove away.
“As the complainant was about to leave, he got into his motor vehicle and the accused came and blocked the complainant’s motor vehicle.
“The accused then disembarked from his motor vehicle and charged towards the complainant and he opened the driver’s door where the complainant was seated.
“The accused then hit the complainant on the mouth with a fist while the second accused opened the passenger door and hit him with a clenched fist on the head.
“In the process, the third accused came and held the complainant and pushed him to the seat of the motor vehicle so that he could not retaliate.
“The complainant sustained a cut on the lip and two broken teeth, he was referred to hospital for medical examinations and a medical affidavit was supplied.”
Charakupa and his gang also face a similar assault charge for an attack on another man on the same night.
