SYSTEM Tazvida’s widow, Babra Mabuyaye, has never received a Valentine’s Day present for 25 years and, in a few days’ time, she will mark a quarter-of-a-century without getting one.

System died on February 4, 1999.

He was only 31.

“System was a loving person who used to pamper me with gifts,” Barbra told H-Metro.

“When he died in 1999, we were heading towards Valentine’s Day and I couldn’t get a present that year.

“He also wanted to take me to Victoria Falls in April 1999 for some holidays but we failed after he died.

“To be honest, the wound is still fresh and it still feels like yesterday when he died and went to be with the Lord.”

After a quarter-of-a-century as a single mother, Babra says she has learnt to be strong and mind her own business.

“As an able-bodied widow, I can’t afford to sit at home and expect to be spoon-fed in this era.

“Quite a number of widows are doing very well out there and who am I to continue living in the past?

“I’m now into buying and selling, like most women do out there.

“I also do online marketing of my stuff and I am just living an ordinary life like most of the people in Zimbabwe.”

Babra added:

“I am always in touch with them (Tazvida’s relatives) but I can’t beg them for help to assist me because we are all struggling to make ends meet.

“I am just doing my thing and it’s up to them to remember System Tazvida the way they want.”

When System died in 1999, the couple had no kids

“When he died, we had stayed together for 10 years but we had no kids.

“We enjoyed everything that we did together as husband and wife and we never regretted some of the challenges we faced in life as we had faith in God that He would help us.

“He was a reserved guy who put his family first.”

System’s younger brother, Peter Tazvida, who temporarily took over the reins, died in 2002.
