TWO University of Zimbabwe female students were robbed of two cellphones and US$50 in cash after boarding a private car outside the campus rank.
The suspects were armed with knives and threatened to rape and stab the students.
Safety Champions for University of Zimbabwe (SCUZ) organising secretary, Munesuishe Chiveso, said the matter was reported to the police in Avondale and investigations are underway.
Chiveso said the police managed to gather intelligence on the suspects’ and other vehicles being used for robberies in Mt Pleasant.
“The vehicles include a silver Toyota RunX driven by two females, a white Toyota Pro-box driven by a man, a white kombi driven by a woman and a white Fun Cargo,” said Chiveso.
Students have been urged to avoid boarding unregistered kombis and mushikashika, and to use transport which use the campus rank only.
“Students must take note of the licence plates of the vehicles they board on the campus. We recommend those with white plates from reputable associations within the rank.”
