Unilever, through their Lifebuoy brand, are set to run a schools programme aimed at educating children on the correct way of handwashing to prevent diseases.
With the year’s Global Handwashing Day themed ‘Clean hands- a recipe for health’ Unilever deliberately coined the local theme “Kick out Cholera” which focuses on eradicating the disease.
The managing director at Unilever brand, Hillary Muzondiwa, said handwashing day is an advocacy aimed at raising the awareness on the importance of handwashing.
“Handwashing is an effective, easy and affordable way to ensure that one does not fall sick and is a preventative measure against disease such as cholera, typhoid and diarrhoea.
“This year Unilever through lifebuoy through Lifebuoy Brand will run a schools program that will include 20 schools in the most affected areas.
“The program is aimed at educating children on the correct handwashing to prevent diseases.
“We hope to reach 15 000 children as we run our programme,” He said.
The Lifebuoy Brand manager Kuzivakwashe Mpofu and the Unilever team taught the pupils through demonstration on how to correctly wash hands.
