The University of Zimbabwe 2019 graduation ceremony, which was scheduled for September 13 has been delayed by seven days to pave way for the mourning of former president Robert Mugabe.
Graduation will now be held on September 20.
Mugabe died in Singapore on September 5 aged 95.
He was declared a national hero and his body is expected today.
In a statement, UZ said the postponement was due to the passing on of the former UZ Chancellor.
“The University of Zimbabwe wishes to inform all graduands their families, invited guests and the nation that the 2019 UZ graduation ceremony that had been planned for Friday 13 September has been postponed to Friday 20 September.
“The postponement follows the sad passing on of former president of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe and the subsequent declaration by Government of national mourning until his burial.”
Born on February 21, 1924, into a Catholic family at Kutama Mission North West of Harare, the former president was described as a loner and studious child, known to carry a book even while tending cattle in the bush.
