A UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe student has appeared in court facing attempted rape after allegedly forced himself on a counterpart.

Panashe Mubvuma’s bail ruling will be heard today before Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko.

It is the State case that on August 9, the complainant went to Panashe’s hostel where she was invited for drinks.

After a few drinks, the 23-year-old started kissing the complainant whilst making sexual moves on her before he was refrained.

The State alleges that despite warnings, Panashe went on to lock the door, hid the keys and continued forcing himself to have sex with the complainant.

Further to his actions, Panashe is accused of having attempted to remove the complainant’s dress without her consent.

It is also alleged that Panashe went on to strip himself naked before forcefully trying his luck again in the three hour long escapade.

According to the State, the scuffle only ended when the complainant told the accused that she was hungry and needed food.

When they got out of the hostel in search for food at around 8pm, the complainant escaped in a chase.

She fell in the trench, sustained bruises on her knees and broke her cellphone in the process.

A report was later filed at Avondale police leading to the accused’s arrest.
