ONE of the longest-serving players in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One league, Simbarashe Domingo, has been suspended by his club for taking drugs.

Domingo is a seasoned attacking midfielder who has graced the Division One landscape for a very long time and also once played in the domestic Premiership for Shabanie United.

He had an unsuccessful stint at CAPS United where he struggled to make the breakthrough.

He has captained the Pirates, who are also known as Dzinza or Zaire, on a number of occasions and is one of the club’s finest ever players.

Last year, he scored the only goal that sank Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi Stadium where the Shamva-based club were virtually unbeatable.

Sources said Domingo was suspended pending investigations into drug abuse during their match against Chinhoyi Stars.

Domingo, according to the same sources, is set to appear before a disciplinary hearing.

“Simba Domingo has been suspended from playing for the club, paving way for investigation of the alleged drug abuse during the Chinhoyi Stars match.

“He is also set to appear for a disciplinary hearing at a later date to be announced.”

In Italy, World Cup winner, Paul Pogba, has been provisionally suspended from football after a drugs test found elevated levels of testosterone in his system earlier this week.

If the 30-year-old France international is found guilty, he could face a ban of between two and four years.
