A HARARE woman has taken her husband to court for insulting her after she requested for a divorce.
Miriam Tengwe appeared at the Harare Civil Court against her husband Washington Mubvumbi who she accused of physically abusing her ever since making her divorce plans known.
“I need a divorce because he has always been abusing me.
“He has been calling me a prostitute in front of the children and the neighbours.
“When I asked for a divorce that is when he started harassing me and I had to move out of our matrimonial home,” said Tengwe.
Tengwe told the court that she is now staying at her friend’s place but Mubvumbi has been coming to harass her.
“I have since moved out of our matrimonial home with the children and I am now staying at my friend’s place.
“He has been coming to where I am staying to beat me since I have said I need a divorce,” she said.
Mubvumbi disputed the assault allegations saying that it was him who asked for a divorce first and the wife was bitter about it.
“Before she asked for a divorce I had already told her that I wanted a divorce and marry another wife.
“She is only bitter about it that is why she is asking for a protection order against me.
“I have never insulted her or visit her friend’s place to harass her but only to see my children,” said Mubvumbi.
Presiding magistrate Tafadzwa Miti granted the peace order in favour of Tengwe.
