AN EPWORTH woman who was claiming maintenance from two men was convicted when she appeared before Harare magistrate Victoria Mashamba-Kajengo.
Stella Kwanisai, who had pleaded not guilty to the charge, was convicted after a full trial.
Kwanisai had previously dragged to court her ex-husband Kenias Chizema over $3000 in maintenance arrears before the latter lodged a complaint with the police proving his former wife was claiming maintenance from another man.
According to the State led by Hatizivo Chatikobo, Kwanisai was claiming maintenance from Chizema and Solver Nyaude, for a child who has two surnames on separate birth certificates.
In building a case to convict Kwanisai, Chatikobo produced a letter from the Registrar General’s office which showed that the child purported to be Chizema’s, Precious, born on March 22 in 2008, had another birth certificate with Nyaude as the father.
The State also indicated that Kwanisai fraudulently acquired the maintenance order that she was using to claim maintenance from Chizema.
Kwanisai will be sentenced today.
