A WOMAN and her two children have been sleeping in the open, where they are being pounded by rain and other elements, after they were evicted from their home by her husband after he brought another wife home.
Violet Svoba, of 25B Tendere Street in Eiffel Flats, Kadoma, has been living in the open together with her two children after the Messenger of Court evicted them from their home last week.
Violet told H-Metro her husband, Odson Machona, wants her to make way for his new wife.
“I have been married to Odson Machona since 2009 and we have two children, he married me as his second wife and when his first wife died, I then went to stay with him in Rimuka.
“Due to his relatives’ influence, there were constant problems within the family and I suggested that we buy another house and, in 2019, we bought a house here in Eiffel Flats.
“However, the problems resurfaced and the pressure was that I should move out of my matrimonial home.
“Last year, my husband came to our house, accompanied by his new wife, Melody Mugabe, whom he works with at Inkomo Barracks.”
She added:
“He was accompanied by his relatives and he said he wanted to show his new wife his house and on that particular day he assaulted me in front of his new wife and his relatives.
“I reported that case to the police but the case has never been heard in court.
“They then hatched a plan to evict me from my matrimonial house and on January 3, this year, the Messenger of Court evicted me from my house, together with two of my children and we’re now living in the open.
“With all the rain that is pounding Kadoma, it’s tough.
“They even went further to strip the roof off the house and removed the doors and they are now selling the house.”
Violet said this is not the first time her husband has abandoned them.
“I know my husband is a womaniser, this is not the first time to abandon me, in 2021 he moved out and went to live with another woman in Gweru but he resurfaced in 2022.
“And now he is up to it again with Melody Mugabe. We bought the Eiffel Flats house during the subsistence of our marriage but now he is throwing me out because of Melody Mugabe, the Rimuka house is his house with the first wife.”
Contacted for a comment, Machona was not reachable and did not respond to questions sent onto his phone.
